Report: Fairford Town 2 Baffins Milton Rovers 3 (aet)

FAIRFORD Town were knocked out of the Buildbase FA Vase at the hands of Baffins Milton Rovers, with the decisive goal arriving deep into extra-time.

The home side had rallied from 2-0 down to force an additional 30 minutes of play, but the Hampshire side got the upperhand to seal a place in the next round.

Fairford made a poor start to the game and were a goal down with just seven minutes on the clock. Goalkeeper Ben Mitchell played the ball out to Rich Thwaite at the back, but Robbie Tan regained possession and hammered home to put the visitors in front.

The first real Fairford effort of note was a long distance drive by Callum Preece which was easily held by Cameron Scott in the Rovers goal. There were further chances for the visitors to extend the lead before the half-time interval, but just the one goal separated the sides going into the break.

Fairford made a much brighter start to the second period immediately set about putting pressure on the visitors. But it was a second goal for the visitors which looked to have put the game beyond doubt, with Tan heading home his second of the day.

Then came the Reds’ comeback with Dan Bailey volleying home a 74th minute corner before Lee Smith smashed home the equaliser with three minutes of normal time remaining.
