FAIRFORD Town are out of the Buildbase FA Vase following a 3-1 defeat at Royal Wootton Bassett on Friday night.
In front of a crowd of 159 at The Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, the visitors went behind with just 15 minutes on the clock as midfielder Harvey Scholes was allowed time on the edge of the box. He picked his spot with ease and curled a rising shot into the top corner past Ben Mitchell.
Fairford were unable to get a grip on the encounter and when Sam Collier smashed home a loose ball seven minutes before the break to double the lead, it looked like any chance of a cup run would be over.
However, the Reds’ rallied after the break and got a goal back with Liam Gale jinking his way through before dispatching a low shot just past the hour for his second goal in four days.
Lee Smith headed against the base of the post on 74 minutes before Fairford again hit the woodwork two minutes later as they piled on the pressure. Their efforts went unrewarded as the tie was sealed by Sam Packer who cut inside and fired the third with six minutes remaining.
